City Year was founded in 1988 as a national service program to unite young adults from diverse backgrounds for a demanding year of full-time community service. City Year has grown from 50 corps members in Boston to more than 3,000 members serving in 29 US cities, as well as in South Africa and the UK.

The purpose of the Elevo curriculum is to use fun, physically active games and sports as a vehicle to engage students in social & emotional learning.

 

The Partnership for Los Angeles Schools is a non-profit organization created in 2007 to transform historically under-served schools and serve as a scalable transformation model for Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), the State of California, and the nation. The Partnership dramatically accelerates achievement for students in the district's highest-need schools by operating a network of 18 schools (14,000 students) in Boyle Heights, Souta LA, and Watts.

Every year, BBBSLA impacts more 1,500 youth through five unique mentoring programs that serve children and youth in their communities, schools, and in the workplace. By building a strong, one-to-one and professionally supported mentoring relationship to serve as a foundation for transformative impact and life skills learning, BBBSLA’s innovative approaches to expanding mentoring opportunities help to close both the achievement and opportunity gaps that exist for too many underserved children and youth.

LA's best vision is to provide all children a safe place to be after school with caring, responsible adults and engaging activities that connect each child to his/her school, family and community. The mission of LA's BEST is to provide a safe and supervised after school education, enrichment, and recreation program for elementary school children ages 5 to 12 in the city of Los Angeles.

 

The core activities at LA’s BEST have been divided into three and a half beats: help with homework, a learning activity that boosts core academic skills such as reading or math, something that’s new and just plain fun, and a nutritious snack. These components provide structure for a program that is otherwise highly customized based on students’ needs and the site staff’s interests and experience.

TreePeople inspires and supports the people of LA to come together to plant and care for trees, harvest the rain, and renew depleted landscapes. We unite with communities to grow a greener, shadier and more water-secure city at homes, neighborhoods, schools and in the local mountains. We work with volunteer leaders using our unique Citizen Forester model, and we influence government agencies for a healthy, thriving Los Angeles.

The Mission Continues empowers veterans who are adjusting to life at home to find purpose through community impact. We deploy veterans on new missions in their communities so that their actions will inspire future generations to serve.

The Beyond the Bell (BTB) Branch Youth Services Section provides an after-school safe haven for children in grades 2-8. This program is provided free-of-charge to participants. The program operates from the time of school dismissal until the posted closing time to better meet the recreational and supervision needs of children, as well as those of working parents. Additionally, expanded program hours may be provided on minimum and shortened days to provide safe and supervised activities.

 

The goals of the program are to provide wholesome, supervised enrichment, fitness and sports activities in safe neighborhood environments. The program emphasizes physical fitness that develops basic movement skills, strong and healthy bodies, teamwork, sportsmanship, cooperative social skills and activities that reinforce the skills learned in the regular instructional program. In addition, the tenets and teaching model of the national CHARACTER COUNTS! the program is implemented to instill and reinforce the back-to-basics effort to build good character in our youth.

We provide books to inner-city schools where at least 90 percent of students live at or below the poverty line. Most students at the schools we serve are children of color and children of immigrants. Since 1999, Access Books has donated more than a million books, and each year, approximately 18,000 pre-kindergarten through middle school-aged children participate in our program.

The Water Buffalo Club is a charitable organization dedicated to fostering the well-being of underserved and at-risk children in Los Angeles through its members' commitment of their time and financial resources.
